My earliest memories of books include my third grade teacher, Mrs. Dee Quinton, allowing me to sit in her porcelain, claw-foot bathtub filled with plump pillows to read when work was finished early, and my days spent at the Rossville Public Library sitting in my favorite spot reading every afternoon after school while I waited for my mom to pick me up after she would get finished at work. The power of that magical library card and the smell of those books are memories I'll never forget!
Following college, I became a fifth grade teacher at Woodstation Elementary School. My favorite activities included literature circles where we would read and write about our books. I went on to teach ELA in fifth grade for eleven years before having the privilege of serving as our Media Specialist.
I was ready for a new challenge in my career when this opportunity presented itself to me. Although it required that I return to college for a bit, it was well worth the price for the abundant joy I have found in the library once again!
I love that our library opens early for book club meetings before the school day begins. Students may read chapters, discuss what's been read, or just come in to celebrate a book we've finished reading together. Did I say how much I love my job?
